Action Plan

Below is the action plan I created, choosing Nicole’s top three needs that she specified on our Google Doc.

Week One: Focus on organizing school, grade level, and teacher files.

Start by asking Nicole’s confidence level (on a scale of 1-10) with organizing her digital files.  Give a brief tutorial of Evernote (video and my demo), showing her all the features and the big picture of how it works.  Show the new post-it feature, as I already know she likes to color code.  Let Nicole go through her Evernote, navigating her folders and organzing.  Now give a tutorial on Google Drive (video and my demo).  Nicole didn’t ask about Google Drive, but our school plan is that every teacher uses Drive for themselves and their students.  Begin with just Nicole using Drive rather than focusing on student use.  Look at her Drive, answer her questions, and help Nicole organize her files.
Reflection Questions:  What is your comfort level (on a scale of 1-10) with organizing your digital files?  What is your biggest takeaway from today?  How will this impact your teaching?   What can I do next to help you continue this learning?

Week Two: Focus on Web resources and apps Nicole can use with her students.

Start by asking her confidence level (on a scale of 1-10) in knowing which Web resources and apps to use with her students.  Nicole asked for help in any tech she may not be aware of.  I felt this topic to be too broad with the likelihood of being overwhelming, so I decided to focus on resources that will fit perfectly with BYOD.  Earlier this week, I did some digging with her kinder partners who are on track (Nicole is currently on vacation, as it’s a year round school).  Her kinder partners want to start BYOD and need direction on how to get started.  I brought up this need to the other Digital Learning Coaches, and together we are creating a kinder BYOD rollout plan to be used across the district.  Nicole’s principal also wants BYOD to start in kinder in the next few weeks, which is something that I’m leading.  I will ask Nicole what kinds of resources she will need for BYOD.  Then I will show Nicole different Web resources and apps that her students can use (live demo) and will send her a Google Doc I will already have created with links to those resources and a description of what they do.  We will explore any other resources Nicole feels she will need after I show her what I have come up with.
Reflection Questions: Now what is your confidence level (on a scale of 1-10) in knowing which Web resources and apps to use with your students?  What are the top three resources you would like to start implementing?  How can I continue to support you in your goal?

Week Three: Focus on using the InterWrite tablet to provide visual support during math.

Start by asking Nicole’s confidence level (on a scale of 1-10) with using the InterWrite tablet during math. In Nicole’s classroom (without students), give a five minute demonstration of various ways the InterWrite can be used during her daily math lessons.  Point out easy, key features that she can start with.  Next, customize Nicole’s InterWrite toolbar to make sure she has the features she needs.  Have Nicole practice using the features I showed her.  Now pull up a few math lessons and brainstorm ways the InterWrite can be used.  Allow Nicole to practice.
Reflection Questions:  Now what is your comfort level (on a scale of 1-10) with using the InterWrite for math?  What is the most useful feature you learned?  How will this impact your teaching?  How will your new knowledge impact student learning?  What support do you need from me to continue this learning? Are you ready to look at integrating the InterWrite into other subjects?
